Welcome to my home page and thanks for visiting.  I retired from Iowa State in the spring semester of 2007 after a 41 year career in engineering, 23 years as a college professor and 18 years as a design engineer and consulting engineer.  I will always be an engineer in mind and spirit but now is the time for enjoying a busy schedule of family, hobbies, and avocations.

Music, Ham Radio, Historic Trails Research, Hiking in the Bitterroot Mountains, Writing Books, and Long-distance Bicycling occupy much of my retirement days.

These 41 years have been challenging and rewarding.  I got paid to do things I loved to do.  In addition I married, raised a family, and contributed to technologies now in everyday use such as GPS, Satellite Communications, and Cellphone Receivers.  I mentored many new engineering graduate students and taught engineering to hundreds of students.  It was very enjoyable to guide the research of many graduate students who are now leading successful careers.  It was also a pleasure to work with many talented engineers and they taught me the trade I so much wanted to learn.
